Lisa Browar

Lisa Browar was appointed President of the Linda Hall Library of Science, Engineering and Technology in July 2008. Prior to accepting this position, she was University Librarian at The New School in New York City from 2002 until July 2008.

Born in New York, and raised on the East Coast as well as in the Midwest, Lisa holds a B.A. in English from Indiana University, an M.A. in English and American Literature from the University of Kansas, an M.L.S. from Indiana University, and an Executive M.A. in Philanthropic Studies from Indiana University-Purdue University Indianapolis. She began her career as Assistant Curator of the Yale Collection of American Literature at Yale University’s Beinecke Library, and proceeded to become the Curator of Special Collections at Vassar College, the Assistant Director for Rare Books and Manuscripts at The New York Public Library, and the Director of the Lilly Library at Indiana University (Bloomington). Lisa is a member of the Grolier Club. She has served as both secretary and chair of the Rare Books and Manuscripts Section (RBMS) of the Association of College and Research Libraries (ACRL) and was appointed to the New York State Historical Records Advisory Board by Gov. Mario Cuomo. She was co-editor of the ACRL journal, RBM: A Journal of Rare Books, Manuscripts, and Cultural Heritage for six years, and has published and lectured widely on topics concerning literary biography, manuscript curatorship, and the history of the publishing industry. 


Lisa currently serves on the boards of the Kansas City-based Science Pioneers, Inc., and Brush Creek Community Partners. An accomplished musician, Lisa enjoys opera as well as choral and orchestral music.
